DANCE CONNECTION SITE OPERATING PROCEDURE
These are exceptional circumstances and all industries, must always comply with the latest Government advice on Coronavirus (Covid-19).
These Site Operating Procedures (SOP) are based on Public Health England (PHE) guidance; other restrictions and advice may apply in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The HSE is the relevant enforcing authority for PHE guidelines. If a site is not consistently implementing the measures set out by PHE, it may be subject to enforcement action.
DANCE CONNECTION operating during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic needs to ensure they are protecting their workforce and students, minimising the risk of spread of infection.
This guidance is intended to introduce consistent measures in areas open to the public, of all types and sizes in line with the governments recommendations on social distancing and ensure employers and individuals make every effort to comply.
PHE guidance for areas where groups may gather, states “Where it is not possible to follow the social distancing guidelines in full in relation to a particular activity, you should consider whether that activity needs to continue for the site to continue to operate, and, if so, take all the mitigating actions possible to reduce the risk of transmission”
The health and safety requirements of any activity must not be compromised at this time. If an activity cannot be undertaken safely, it should not take place. Emergency services are also under great pressure and may not be able to respond as quickly as usual. This should be taken into consideration in the planning of work activities, first aid, fire and emergency responses.
Drop off & Pick up
The site access has been restricted to enable social distancing, all parents & students need to wait outside in the arrival area, it is your responsibility to observe social distancing. It is essential that everyone is punctual arriving & collecting as staff cannot repeatedly leave their designated group of students to facilitate late drop off & collections. You MUST arrive 10 minutes prior to class time as this is when staff will be doing staggered changeover of classes
Parents will not have access to the building until guidelines change. This does not apply to the Little Bear Feet Classes as the class is taken with a parent/guardian. For those children trialling Melody Movement a parent/guardian may accompany their child for their trial day only.
Students to arrive in dancewear with minimum baggage and water in a named bottle. It is VITAL that hair is slick and back off the face to avoid hand to face contact.
Staff will meet your child at the arrival area, sign them in, hands will be sanitised, and they will be shown to their studio.
There will be a designated collection point for you to pick up your child, they will be escorted there by a member of staff.
All students will be required to wash hands / sanitise at the beginning & end of each session. Dance Connection will ensure adequate supplies of soap and water are readily available at all times and provide hand sanitiser.
Dance Connection will regularly clean the hand washing facilities & provide suitable and sufficient rubbish bins for hand towels with regular removal and disposal.
Students will be allocated a specific toilet depending on which dance studio they are taking class in.
Students to wash or sanitise hands before and after using the facilities.
Dance Connection will enhance the cleaning regimes for toilet facilities, particularly door handles, locks, and the toilet flush and will provide suitable and sufficient rubbish bins for hand towels with regular removal and disposal.
If someone falls ill
If a student develops a high temperature or a persistent cough while at the studio, they should:
- Inform a member of staff immediately
- Avoid touching anything
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue and put it in a bin or if they do not have tissues cough or sneeze into the crook of their elbow
- Parents will need to collect their child & get them tested. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 please inform Dance Connection immediately. We will record all students’ attendances for NHS Test & Trace purposes.
They must then follow the guidance on self-isolation and not return to the studio until their period of self-isolation has been completed.
Work Planning to Avoid Close Contact
Dance Connection have planned and organised training to avoid crowding and minimise the risk of spreading infection by following PHE and HSE guidance and the advice within these Site Operating Procedures.
Current Government Guidelines which we will follow: Multiple groups of 15 plus staff can use the same shared space if necessary, with distancing between the groups. Where this is the case the other protective measures within this guidance will be even more important to minimise the risk of infection and transmission of the virus.
Dance Connection will remind the staff and students of the specific control measures necessary to protect themselves.
To ensure social distancing there will be a maximum of 15 students in Studio 1 and 9 students in Studio 2.
Each student will dance in their own 2 metre square marked box and will have their own designated space at the barre, there will also be a socially distanced procedure when queuing up for corner work. There will be hand sanitiser in each studio which will be used before & after floor work.
Dance Connection will ensure the building is fully sanitised and disinfected at the end of every day and common touch points cleaned between classes where necessary.
Updated On Tuesday 22 September
The Prime Minister announced tighter Covid-19 restrictions and new regulations for England, enforceable from Thursday 24 September.
The new regulations amongst others, extend the ‘rule of 6’ beyond social gatherings, however exemptions to this rule in England, still apply. Exemptions include work, education and training and children’s youth clubs and organised activities. Therefore dance classes for under 18s can continue as long as dance studios and classes are Covid Secure.
The guidance also states that where non-professionals are engaging in performing arts activities i.e. Adult dance classes, that as long as Covid Secure measures are in place groups of more than 6 can come together.
Cleaning & Ventilation
Enhanced cleaning procedures are in place across the building, particularly in communal areas and at touch points including:
- Taps & washing facilities
- Toilet flush & seats
- Door handles and push plates
- Handrails on staircase
- Training equipment
All common touch points in the building will be cleaned daily using a fog spray machine and Virucidal / Bactericidal Disinfectant. The floors will be steam cleaned.
Doors & windows will remain open whenever possible to increase ventilation. Dance Connection have taken advice on their air conditioning system, which is safe to use, and it has been serviced.
Updating information and guidance
Over time, it is likely that Dance Connection will have to adapt and change plans for training safely during the coronavirus outbreak. We will make sure measures are in place to update people as they are adapted and changed.
As information and guidance is key to ensuring people are working safely, Dance Connection will make sure that everyone who needs the information receives it.
